I almost choked when I saw the admission fee. That should weed out some players.

I just saw it was 65 bucks for 200 tokens which is pretty much the same as ACAM, but the Pins at Pinball Wizard are 2 or 3 tokens a game. I would blow through those pretty quickly. I will probably still go an check it out even of I don't play.

That may be true, but unlike ACAM, there's always a chance a previous player will score a free game on a machine which would keep you from spending your tokens if you happen to be next in line. Also, you might want to consider bringing headphones. :)
At the games at ACAM, you hardly ever win a free game.

The headphones sound like a good idea. How many Pins are in the tourney?

The free game theory makes sense. I'm sure it'll rack up.

Say, does anyone know where I can get a list of the pinball games being used in the tournament?

Rob is planning on MAMEing all the pins until Sunday, sign up, and steal first place in each category. My only chance to beat him is if I sign up three times.

Aurcade can list you six times Lakeman, it won't matter....I'm gonna sandbag that tourney so hard only Steve Carrell will be able to describe it - [40 Year Old Virgin reference]

65 dollars for play access to top condition pins for 36 hours of play time. All machines are totally refurbed for the tournament and maintained constantly during the tourney. Some "play styles" are rather rough on these vintage machines and in fact some players are downright disrespectful to the machines. Do you think the repair parts come free? Even if you have to buy more tokens you get 100 for $20....so even two token games are really just 40ยข. First hundred entrants get a nice T-shirt as well. I challenge anyone to agree to put their machines up for three days of hard play buy 100+ people and have you do it for less than $65 per person. Then there is additional staff to run the scoring, prizes, promotion, etc....I think $65 is cheap for such an experience. This is my second year attending this event and i travel a long distance to attend. It is this sort of whining that has put most arcades out of business in the first place.

Just like I predicted. I blew through those tokens pretty quickly and not too many free games in front of me were given. I had to even give tokens to players who racked up free games to play. It was fun to try and the place was nice, but I won't be back next year.

I look at it this way. The $60- entry fee included $40 worth of tokens I'd buy anyway and a T-shirt worth at least $10-. So all I contributed to the prize and profit pool which I KNEW I wouldn't be sharing, was $10 at most.

Sarah has given us a gift with this arcade, one of only 2 that opened in the US last year. She is proving arcades CAN be a viable business. Every time I'm tempted to complain about anything there, I think back to waiting for summer so the beach arcades would open with a handful of poorly maintained machines.

PWA is a great place, with a great staff that makes you not only feel welcome but appreciated.
